The Ranger Station by Alite Designs

This is a great opportunity for those of you who want to take a camping trip but don’t have the equipment. Visit the Ranger Station where you can rent equipment by San Francisco’s very own Alite Designs!

THIS EVENING (8/23) at the Agency!
Come on down to the Agency this evening (8/23) at 7:00pm for a demonstration on oxy-acetalyne torch brazing with Rafi from Raphael Cycles.
He’ll talk about what he does, different types of welding, and do some brazing on the spot!
Bring sunglasses, as brazing is very bright.
From his website, www.raphaelcycles.com: “Raphael Cycles was born out of the idea that a bicycle is a synthesis of craft and engineering. A bicycle should last forever, that it should be a constant companion on adventure, that a bicycle should inspire confidence, it should disappear underneath you, be a bomb proof and durable machine of art and quality. This machine should be built by a local builder, using the highest grade materials, sized and constructed in a local workshop. We make choices about what we purchase and where we purchase it from. These bicycles are not mass made goods. They are not made in places far away, with little regard for waste and environment. They are made, one at a time, in a workshop, by one person investing sweat and time to create a locally made, high quality product invested with care, love, and exacting standards of quality.”

Storefront Lab

We were chosen as one of eight experiments to inhabit the Storefront Lab!

StoreFrontLab is a year-long exploration of storefronts as places of community, creativity and local industry. Located at 337 Shotwell Street in San Francisco’s Mission District, and funded by the Micro Mission 888 Foundation

For more information on the Storefront Lab, visit: http://www.storefrontlab.org/

We are so excited to be a part of such a wonderful project.

Here’s a description we included in our proposal to the Storefront Lab ——>

We at Post Car Travel Agency want to create a cycle-centered travel agency based in the Bay Area. By inhabiting Store Front Lab, Post Car Travel Agency will promote bicycle-touring culture and community. Post Car Travel Agency was conceived by the women of Roving Studio, Post Car Adventuring, and Swift Industries because cycle touring has encouraged us to test our physical limits and expand our social and geographical sense of place. Cycle-tour has introduced us to a deepened connection to the landscape through slower travel and a relationship with public interfaces (transit, etc.). In the Storefront Lab, we are going to create a temporary travel agency planning door-to-door bicycle adventures originating in the San Francisco Bay Area. We will provide all the functions of a travel agency: planning, booking, giving advise on outfitting and routes. In addition to custom trips , we will highlight 4 routes, each of which will feature a custom baggage arrangement outfitted by the handcrafters at Swift Industries. The Post Car Travel Agency will serve as a Bay Area hub for ten days of presentations, classes, and retail space to inspire bicycle adventures. We see the StoreFrontLab as a jumping off point for a larger discussion about modern travel and as a starting point for further installations of the Post Car Travel Agency. “

Flexibility differentiates textiles from most other
materials. Textiles hang, but they cannot support
themselves. Traditionally, they are defined as materials
where an assembly of small strands make up a whole
through techniques such as weaving and knitting.
Textiles have evolved to define a group of materials
and products that are printed, woven, knit, fused,
layered, coated and stiffened. Many of the textiles in
this exhibit replace the systems traditionally created
through looms and knitting patterns with algorithms
and computer modeling. These new textiles are
digitally printed of plywood, plastics, and fabrics and
can support themselves, move in and out of plane
and are flexible and adaptable in their size and shape.
These ideas represent new and exciting methods for
building from the scale of a table napkin to the size
of a sky scraper.
